Why is it important?
Cross-reactions have not been extensively and system-atically investigated in patients with contact allergy to imidazoles. Probably, their chemical structures may fail to explain cross-sensitization, and stereo-chemical studies are therefore needed. In our opinion, an extensive antimycoticand antiparasitic azole series should be tested, alsoincluding triazoles and nitroimidazoles, in order to fully diagnose the individual spectrum of contact allergyand thereby prevent inadvertent systemic contact dermatitis.
