What is it about?

In the study, we found the relationship between functional and taxonomic diversity through a gradient of secondary succession using ants as a focal group. We find that the rare species in frequency perform most of the ecosystem services. In addition, we found that although a large part of the number of ant species is recovered after 30 years of succession, functional diversity is not fully recovered.

Why is it important?

The study shows the importance of rare species for the performance of ecosystem services. Also, the importance of secondary forests for the conservation of tropical forests

Perspectives

I hope the study helps to raise awareness about the importance of ants in tropical forests, and in general the importance of conservation
