What is it about?
Increased peripheral vasoconstriction plays a role in hypertension and in vasospasms leading to insufficient organ blood supply. Here we investigated whether novel inhibitors of enzymes, phosphodiesterase type 1 that breakdown cyclic nucleotides in the vascular wall dilate small arteries. We found that these inhibitors dilate small arteries and lower blood pressure suggesting they offer interesting therapeutic possibilities both in hypertensive disease and in patients with vasospasms.
