What is it about?

The rate of incidence of SIOL was 28% in our patients with IOL, which shows it is not a rare type of IOL. SIOL was classified into three subtypes based on its development. Clinical outcomes of SIOL patients revealed poor prognosis and common relapse, as several types, including eye lesions, CNSL and systemic lesions, occurred at high frequency within a short period.

Why is it important?

SIOL is not a rare type of IOL as the rate of incidence of SIOL was 28% in our IOL patients. Even with various preventive chemo-radiotherapies, SIOL tended to recur repeatedly at high frequencies within short periods from the diagnosis and clinical outcomes were poor

Perspectives

Even though treatments for PIOL have improved as the result of several clinical trials, an effective treatment for SIOL remains to be determined.
