What is it about?
This paper study the evolution of the elements of the Community of Inquiry model over time, indicating that the progression of the virtual communications produces changes in the social, cognitive, and teaching elements. Based on Tancredi (2006) and Winiecki, (2003), a new categorization system was formulated as follows: Initiation, Proposal, Development, Opinion/Closing, Goodbyes. Confirm students are satisfied with the virtual communications.

Why is it important?
The data obtained enable us to adapt the communication process in virtual education environments. We have observed that the internal structure of the communications is very similar in chats and forums.
Perspectives
Beginning teachers can find training and support for virtual communications. The Community of Inquiry model helps training teachers for the design and development of virtual communications in e-learning and blended learning.
