What is it about?
The present study employed the stochastic frontier production approach to investigate how technical efficiency (TE) of semi-intensive and intensive shrimp farms is influenced by socio-economic factors and environmental hazards.

Why is it important?
The present study suggests government intervention on reducing farmers' exposure to floods, droughts and pollution through the restoration of sea dykes, drainage channels and access to information on flood and drought conditions to enhance farmers' adaptive capacity. The latter will help the farmers to prepare for upcoming drought events in the study area. There should also be periodic training on sustainable shrimp farming systems that educate farmers on the overall sustainability of shrimp farming businesses in the region.
