Environmental justice theorists disagreed on whether it is race or class that is producing differential environmental impacts on people of color. This theory attempts to transcend the debate by delving into the historical and structural roots of the problem to prove that when it comes to African Americans a broader conception of race that encompasses economic variables should be adopted.
