What is it about?

I consider the educational justification for schools taking part in public events of remembrance of war - for example around 'Remembrance Day' in November in the U.K. I offer three possible justifications for remembering war in schools: 1. That we owe a debt of gratitude to the war dead. 2. That remembrance of war strengthens shared values. 3. That we should remember the horror of war so that children are encouraged to avoid future conflict. I argue that we should only accept the 'horror' justification. I also argue that schools should not be involved in distributing poppies.
