What is it about?
The aim of the current study was to evaluate if methylation status of CpG sites of interferon regulatory factor 7 (IRF7) promoter in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients is involved in pathogenesis of the disease.

Why is it important?
it is of interest to evaluate if DNA methylation profiles of IFN regulatory factor 7 (IRF7) as an important IFN signature gene is involved in the pathogenesis of SSc. In this study, we aimed to evaluate methylation status of CpG sites in the promoter region of IRF7 gene and assess the effect of methylation status on the messenger RNA (mRNA) expression level of this gene, attempting to explore SSc pathogenesis from an epigenetics viewpoint.
