What is it about?

We reviewed 11 studies involving nearly 3,000 adults with type 2 diabetes to see how nurse-led digital programs help them manage their condition at home. These programs include online monitoring, education, and virtual support from nurses. We found that patients using these digital programs improved their self-care habits, reduced blood sugar levels (HbA1c), and reported better quality of life.

Why is it important?

Managing type 2 diabetes can be challenging, especially for patients living in the community without constant access to clinics. Digital nurse-led programs offer an accessible and scalable way to support patients, helping them control blood sugar, adopt healthier habits, and improve overall well-being. Our study provides quantitative evidence that these programs work, guiding healthcare providers and policymakers in implementing effective digital interventions.

Perspectives

Working on this review showed us the power of combining nursing expertise with digital technology. It was inspiring to see that structured virtual support can help patients manage chronic conditions like diabetes more effectively. We hope our findings encourage healthcare teams to adopt nurse-led digital programs, making high-quality diabetes care more reachable for everyone, regardless of location.
