Why is it important?

Sorghum is a powerhouse crop in drier regions that supports more than 500 million people. As the regions are becoming drier due to climate change, many studies have shown that sorghum yield can be negatively affected. it becomes imperative to develop climate-resilient crop cultivars that are able to withstand current and projected drought stress.

Perspectives

I hope this article draws attention to sorghum and its vast potentials that have largely been overlooked in favor of water-thirsty crops like maize and rice. The drier regions of sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian sub-continent are currently feeling the pangs of climate change and seeing a drop in yields. Climate change is an issue that touches me and I believe we are not doing enough to address the crop production issues in our regions. I sincerely hope readers will find this article as food for thought.
