What is it about?

a study on the ideal non-invasive urine sample collection method in bladder cancer patients

Why is it important?

The literature states that there is a bacterial difference between urine that is first voided and midstream urine. We found that there is no statistically significant difference between the two collection methods even on microbiota analysis.

Perspectives

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that undertakes the hypothesis of the first voided urine reflects the urethra and midstream urine reflects the bladder. The current opinion stating that the bacterial content of the urine samples differs with the collection method needs to be revised.
