What is it about?

SAT>IP is an emerging protocol for distribution of TV content over local IP network. This paper presents the remote tuner concept, on which the SAT>IP protocol is based. Estimations are given for the delay introduced by remote tuner in scanning and zapping procedures. In the case of zapping, the overhead can be neglected.

Why is it important?

The paper gives an overview of the SAT>IP protocol and the remote tuner concept. The overhead introduced by the protocol in the case of two typical procedures (channel scanning and zapping) is analyzed and estimated.

Perspectives

The paper introduces the reader to the SAT>IP protocol and remote tuner concept, as well as to the problem of zapping time, and to an existing solution for the problem. Among others, the paper is a result of my work on development of SAT>IP server and client software.
