What is it about?
Channel zapping delay adversely affects user viewing experience in digital television. We propose a technique that is based on machine learning to reduce the delay. Using C4.5 decision trees we predict the next channel that the user will select. The predicted channel is pre-joined, together with the neighboring channels of the currently selected channel. The results of the evaluation show an increase of 5.67% in the probability that the next selected channel is already pre-joined, compared to the case when only neighboring channels are pre-joined.
