What is it about?
This paper is about a sensor for pressure measurements, compensated for temperature. It embeds two FBGs in a transducer designed to induce large strain to one of the FBGs when the sensor is exposed to pressure. The other FBG is used for the temperature compensation. The transducer and the case are entirely 3D-printed.

Why is it important?
The pressure sensitivity of this sensor is found as high as 240 pm/kPa with an accuracy of 112 Pa over 10 kPa, which makes this sensor up to 80,000 times more sensitive than a bare fiber Bragg grating. Moreover, it is capable of detecting fast dynamic pressure change up to 100Hz. The sensor transducer can be adapted to other ranges and with different sensitivity, by modifying the design geometric parameters and the material.
