What is it about?

This paper presents a novel ring power divider/combiner well suited for millimeter wave applications, V band, E Band, D Band,...

Why is it important?

This design enhances the traditional Wilkinson design at millimeter wave by: (i) Reducing undesirable mutual coupling between the λg/4 transformers arms; (ii) Avoiding step-in-width discontinuity to circumvent parasitic effect and (iii) Creates the ideal framework for the integrated isolation resistor, converting the layout in a ring circuit of 1.5 λg length.

Perspectives

On-wafer measurements were performed over the V-band.. The RL and the isolation measurement results are better than 15 dB over the whole considered band. The additional loss is less than 1 dB while high amplitude/phase Balance factors are obtained for the entire band.
