Why is it important?

It demonstrates how online comments posted during live matches intersected with broader issues such as culture, identity, politics and religion. Overall, in the digital age, people seem to enjoy consuming live sporting events in an online social setting rather than as isolated individuals.

Perspectives

This work is quite close to my heart for two reasons. First, this is my first single-authored journal article. Thanks to my PhD supervisor Dr Alton Chua from Nanyang Technological University for all his guidance. Second, this work allowed me to conduct research on cricket, which excites and fascinates me so much in life. I hope that the paper contributes to shaping the academic discourse on sports marketing and social media communication.
