What is it about?
This research explored how a leader's well-being influences their ability to lead authentically. While previous studies have focused on how authentic leadership affects followers, this study uniquely examined its impact on the leaders themselves. Conducted in Germany with leaders from various sectors, the study tracked changes over 14 months. It found that a leader's well-being at one point in time significantly predicted their engagement in authentic leadership later on. However, the reverse — that practicing authentic leadership would boost a leader's well-being — was not observed.
