What is it about?
This paper presents a narrative literature review of the added value of healthy workplaces for employees and organizations. Its focus is on employee satisfaction, labour productivity and facility cost, The paper explores what evidence is available about relationships between health and satisfaction, productivity, and/or facility costs. The review supports the assumption of positive impacts of appropriate building characteristics on health, satisfaction and productivity. The interrelationships are mainly positive, but some findings are contradicotry. Data on cost and economic benefits of healthy workplace characteristics is limited, and mainly regard reduced sick absence. The discussed papers indicate that investing in healthy work environments is cost effective.
