What is it about?

Social care Personal Assistants (PAs) are a growing segment of the care workforce in the UK. Their role is distinctive in that they are directly employed by, and/or accountable to the person who needs their care or support. Little is known at present about PAs, This paper looks at their employment conditions. These were found to be often unsatisfactory, and sometimes illegal. Though many employers use public funding to pay for PAs to work for them, the PA workforce is not regulated.
