What is it about?

Our study explores the unique management practices of Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to uncover valuable insights for businesses worldwide. Through an extensive review of literature spanning from 1996 to 2021, we identified six key themes in Japanese SME management. These include nuanced firm management, innovation, internationalization, supportive government policies, commitment to corporate social responsibility, and vibrant entrepreneurship. We also pinpoint challenges and not only shed light on the intricacies of Japanese SMEs but also offer global applications across diverse industries.
