Why is it important?

Research pitching competitions like 3MT have proliferated in recent years, yet advice to prospective contestants about how to prepare for one have remained basic, superficial and largely unchanged - minimally adapted from the kinds of generic advice given for any kind of public talk. This article identifies the specific performative requirements for successful pitching, and provides practical guidelines designed to enable contestants to structure and script an effective pitch, and present it with confidence and audience impact.
