What is it about?

This study critically examines the current vital causes of the failure and abandonment of multi-storey building projects by assessing the view of the professionals involved in their execution. It answers the question of whether the incessant failure of multi-storey building projects is caused by the same factors significant in other forms of construction projects.

Why is it important?

This paper shows factors unique to multi-storey building projects as they're rarely previously identified as common causes of project failure and abandonment. An example is the identification of 'structural failure of multi-storey buildings during project execution' as a vital factor. Some other factors which agree with previous research stream in project management are well discussed.

Perspectives

Multi-storey building projects are unique especially in technicality and management requirement, and they should be treated thus. This paper distinctively yields a rich discussion of sensitive factors that can put such unique projects in trouble. I trust that the in-depth literature review and deep insight into the problems confronting Nigeria and most developing countries embedded in this paper will be of immense benefits to practice and further research in the built environment.
