Why is it important?

This article covers important diversity issues that relate to globalisation and multiculturalism today. Moreover, it draws attention to the complexities and complications of globalization and the challenge these pose for multi-national organizations. Often émigrés find themselves in an alien society with limited insight to their ethnicity and cultural background. This can have a negative affect on self-esteem making it difficult for them to settle as British citizens and performance well. However, some are able to overcome these negative experiences by utilising their talents to cope and for gaining personal fulfilment.

The is a clever article as it provides a global perspective of migration's impact both from a societal and personal perspective. It maps the personal experience of a young immigrant who survived the horrors of civil war, only to arrive in an alien society that was overtly racist. Her singing talent enabled her to overcome the hostility to develop her confidence used as a motivational factor that helped her to become a worldwide singing sensation and respected actress who was recently awarded an OBE.
