What is it about?

The progress and development of a particular profession are influenced by various factors, such as comprehensive education, well-structured training programs, and active professional associations. This research aims to establish fundamental knowledge on archives and records management professionals from Africa while also considering their perspectives on educational opportunities and training programs. Previous studies have only focused on the experiences of graduates from specific institutions within restricted jurisdictions. Unfortunately, there is currently no available data regarding similar investigations carried out by ARM associations based in Africa.

Why is it important?

As far as the author is aware, this research is the initial one to gather information from respondents in multiple African nations involved in records management. The study sheds light on the characteristics of these individuals and their educational backgrounds. This particular investigation makes a distinctive contribution by offering essential data that can serve as a starting point for future studies examining more specific aspects and trends within individual countries on the continent.

Perspectives

In this study, a survey approach was used to gather data consisting 10 research questions that were divided into three categories: background information, characteristics of the education, and types of courses and extent covered during the study. Respondents provided highly nuanced data that should inform any curriculum development for the profession.
