What is it about?

Empirical data on how people speak is important for sociolinguistic research, but it can also serve other purposes, such as the development of artificial intelligence and knowledge of cultures. The article shows how difficult and costly the process of forming a language data collection is and how much the whole society would gain if language repositories were created for the purpose of storing and sharing these collections.
