What is it about?

Nutrigenomics and personalised nutrition could pave the way for more targeted and effective dietary health promotion. We have therefore afforded a voice to freelance dieticians who have taken the leap and added genomic-based information into the mix when providing individualised nutritional advice. The dieticians told us that they had actively networked and sought training in nutrigenomics through various sources. They viewed nutrigenomics as an extension of current practice and as a service for which they already possessed skills. They enjoyed applying nutrigenomics in practice and found it rewarding, especially as it appeared to better motivate and enable clients to make healthy dietary changes. Among the challenges faced was perceived scepticism among the wider profession which was fuelled by the proliferation of pseudo therapies offered on line and which required regulation.
