What is it about?
The development of an approach to by-eye comparisons of visually presented data that reduces the variability between individuals due to a lack of benchmark/yardstick.

Why is it important?
Wherever people are asked to compare data visually, they are frequently presented with a likert-like or arbitrary 10-point scale, with no guidance as to why a "3" is different to a "4", etc. This paper provides that guidance in a way that does not constrain the observers but encourages a group opinion to form.
