What is it about?

This article challenges the narrow focus of traditional DEI initiatives and argues for a broader, more inclusive approach grounded in universal human emotional needs. Drawing on decades of psychological research, it introduces the AgileBrain framework—a comprehensive model that helps HR leaders identify and fulfill the full range of employee motivations. By shifting from identity politics to need fulfillment, organizations can foster deeper engagement, wellbeing, and cohesion for all.

Why is it important?

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs have provoked a backlash because they are so narrowly defined. By including all 12 human emotional needs, the needs of all employees (or students, faculty, soldiers, etc.) are validated and addressed, providing a comprehensive solution.

Perspectives

I sincerely hope that this paper can break the current "log jam" in highly politicized DEI thinking and programs. The solution proposed herein, to measure and fulfill all 12 human emotional needs, should be something everyone can get behind.
