What is it about?

The present paper addresses a big data statistical way to evaluate the risk of allowing the C80 series heavy haul wagons to remain in operation longer than stipulated by the maintenance interval initially set. The maintainability of wagons will be achieved by utilizing wagon performance degradation modelling with the state of the wheel-set and the often-contact side bearing. This paper also propose a statistical model to return to the average safety level of the previous maintenance period's baseline through correct alarming thresholds for unplanned Corrective Maintenance.

Why is it important?

Since 2020, China Railway has extended the maintenance cycle of freight cars. But the extension of the maintenance cycle also brought safety risks to freight car operations: Shattered rim and hunting. Timely detection of Shattered rim and hunting are important to ensure trains' safe running.

Perspectives

Full-continuous W/R force measurement is the key for CR to ensure safety while reducing cost. The paper proposes an approach to reduce such safety risks due to maintenance interval extension by effective maintenance program, helping the railway company make the optimal solution to balance safety and the economy.
