What is it about?

Personal heroes can provide meaning in one’s life, and meaning in life is found to alleviate boredom. We show, for the first time, that workplace heroes do not have the same effect. This is because of the differences in proximity to the heroes, the qualities admired in the heroes, and the extent of representation of ideologies in the heroes which do not allow workplace heroes to influence one's meaning in life; thus, limiting their effect on workplace boredom.

Why is it important?

Workplace boredom has serious implications on employees’ quality of work life and their productivity at work. Therefore, it is of great significance for employee well-being and performance. With the heightening demands to be happy at work, it can be expected that there exists profound sadness at work in general. Consequently, there is a growing need for a heroic level of care to offer protection from it. However, it is unclear whether heroes in the workplace can alleviate boredom.
