What is it about?

This paper describes the Rewind treatment for trauma, with background information about the Human Givens (HG) theoretical perspective. It also breaks down the technique into its various steps, and identifies similarities and differences to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), a well-known therapy. The paper briefly summarises the limited published evidence for the technique and identifies potential explanations for how the technique might work. This paper also identifies potential benefits of HG Rewind for patients, therapists and services.

Why is it important?

The trauma does not need to be discussed in detail, making treatment potentially more accessible for shame-based traumas. Multiple traumas may be treated in one session, making it possible for treatment to potentially be completed in fewer sessions. Rewind might therefore bebe cost-effective and make treatment more accessible for people who do not want to discuss details of their trauma.

Perspectives

I have been excited about making knowledge of this technique more widely known because of it's potential benefits to patients, therapists and services. I hope that this will be thought-provoking paper, especially for those who might be sceptical about how a technique can effectively treat trauma without discussing the trauma in detail!
