What is it about?

The social theoretical perspectives of Niklas Luhmann and other notable theorists are employed for the first time to provide insight into escalating complexity and fragmentation of mental health services in Wales UK, with implications for healthcare services worldwide. Top-down policy-based recovery implementation and a proliferation of grassroots recovery activities are key drivers for this complexity. Recovery should not be considered a ‘magic bullet’ for mental healthcare delivery but should be implemented with care to cultivate optimal conditions for a flourishing pluralism of recovery approaches. This view may be applied to other western psychiatric systems also situated within the recovery paradigm and person-centred care in other settings. Dr Nick Weaver weavern2@cardiff.ac.uk
