Why is it important?

It is important for health and mental health workers to be trained in trauma informed intervention and care to be able to handle crises without being burnt out - before, during, or after crises. This paper shows how such a training was implemented online in India during the COVID-19 pandemic in a way that could reach thousands of me tal health workers.

Perspectives

Organising this training and doing the research in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic was a responsibility I took up to create awareness amongst mental health workers (MHWs) about trauma and to equip them in working with trauma. The intention was to empower the MHWs to support those impacted by the pandemic in the present, and to be able to handle trauma with care in the future.
