What is it about?
"Privacy dark patterns" are design tactics used by websites and apps to influence people to make choices that reduce their online privacy. We held focus groups with Canadian teens to assess how they perceive and respond to privacy dark patterns on social media. We found that teens can identify a range of privacy dark patterns and strategies for resistance when instructed to set up a private social media account. However, they reported low awareness of how social media design could influence their privacy choices before taking part in the study.
