What is it about?

Previous systematic reviews have examined cybersecurity frameworks across many sectors, including higher education, but few have synthesized how governance, human, and maturity-related factors jointly shape cybersecurity effectiveness in higher education institutions. Currently, the studies remain fragmented, often technical, compliance-driven, or region-specific, leaving limited theoretical and empirical understanding of holistic, context-sensitive frameworks suitable for universities. The review addresses that gap by evaluating how cybersecurity management frameworks are adopted and adapted within higher education institutions, identifying success conditions, barriers, and conceptual linkages among governance, culture, and technical standards.
