What is it about?

This study looks at how participatory budgeting (PB) can improve emotional and social well-being in a deprived North London community in Haringey by involving residents in designing and delivering a theatre project. Residents shaped the project to meet their needs, which boosted self-esteem, belonging, and trust. The theatre production helped participants express themselves, build relationships, and feel more in control of their lives. The study shows that PB can empower communities to address health and social challenges through culturally meaningful arts initiatives, fostering individual and collective growth in disadvantaged urban areas.
