Well developed communication skills are important in delivering library services. This paper examines the current levels of awareness of communication skills among librarians in universities and degree-awarding institutions of Pakistan and identifies any existing barriers.

Why is it important?

In the evolving landscape of library services and information access, effective communication skills contribute significantly to achieving strategic library objectives. Improved communication skills also have the potential to favorably impact upon employability prospects.

Perspectives

The findings of the current study highlight the importance of both formal and informal library training. There is an opportunity for library associations to participate, e.g., by offering relevant skills-based workshops.
