What is it about?
Discussion about the relative importance of coaching frequency (quantity) versus expertise (quality) is on-going. When coaching employees in the workplace, we show that expertise is more relevant than the frequency of coaching sessions when predicting work-related outcomes.

Why is it important?
Here are some key takeaways for HR Professionals: 1) Prioritise coaching expertise over frequency. A few well-executed, high-quality coaching conversations are likely to be more impactful than ticking the frequency box. 2) Develop supervisors into coaching experts. Training leaders to coach with skill and insight is likely to deliver greater value than simply coaching more often. 3) Equip supervisors with the relational tools to build and maintain high-quality coaching relationships with subordinates because effective coaching hinges on a strong, trust based relationship. 4) Make sure supervisors know when to exercise tact because not all employees welcome feedback equally.
