What is it about?
We redetermined the crystal structure using a state of the art X-Ray Diffractometer with a Pilatus detector. Anisotropic refinement gave improved accuracy to the data. We described the crystal structure in more detail than ever before and corrected some errors from previous works.

Why is it important?
Vanthoffite has potential Na-ion solid state conductor features. We confirmed its presence in volcanic fumaroles. The work opens perspectives for in-house laboratory determination of crystal structures of fumarolic micron-sized crystals.
