What is it about?
Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are a maturing class of materials with broad applicability to sorption, separation, and storage of small molecules, and with tunable functional properties like luminescence. Understanding structural defects in MOFs, key to the materials science paradigm, remains a challenging problem. This work demonstrates methods to investigate structural defects in MOFs.

Why is it important?
MOF crystallography is complicated. Providing strategies for total scattering analysis of real, defective MOF powders will help researchers see beyond qualitative descriptions and maximize the information obtained from these experiments, and help to validate theoretical predictions.
