What is it about?

This publication relates the synthesis of single crystals of a new quaternary intermetallic compound with a formula close to Zr3Mn3Sn4Ga. Its structure has been solved, and derives from the hexagonal Ti6Sn5 structure, with a remarkable Mn kagome sublattice. Possible non stoichiometry is also discussed.

Why is it important?

This compound belongs to the hexagonal Ti6Sn5 type, which doesn't have many representatives. It is the first quaternary ordered variant in this type. It also bears a Mn kagome sublattice, which is a very exciting structure for solid state physics.
