What is it about?
We use renormalization group to represent the effect of fine scale structures on the large scale structures in Large Eddy Simulations of turbulent thermal convection. For the first time, the knowledge that the dynamics of turbulent thermal convection is similar to that of hydrodynamic turbulence has been utilised in developing this subgrid scale model.

Why is it important?
This subgrid scale model is based on theoretical arguments, and thus provides a robust way to carry out Large Eddy Simulations of turbulent thermal convection.
