Why is it important?

This article was important because it describes the anatomic principles, based on quantitative anatomy and biomechanical studies, for anatomic-based medial-sided knee reconstructions. Anatomic-based reconstructions have been found to provide normal force distributions to the reconstructed ligaments, allowing for early knee motion, and ultimately decrease the risk of having the graft stretch out and with early motion there is a much lower risk of having knee stiffness (arthrofibrosis). This article provides an excellent overview of the surgical steps and basic principles to perform anatomic-based medial knee repair or reconstruction.
