What is it about?

Positive and Negative thinking in those with tinnitus can affect how distressing someone's experience is. Here we assess the usefulness of the Tinnitus Cognitions Questionnaire to measure positive and negative thinking. Negative thinking appears to be associated with more problematic tinnitus, but positive thinking is not associated with less problematic tinnitus. Perhaps reducing negative thinking might be more important than teaching positive thinking in therapy for those with tinnitus.

Many psychological therapies focus on changing thoughts or thinking styles to help individuals to cope. However, it is important that we have a useful way to measure thinking around tinnitus, which can take into account both positive and negative thoughts.
