What is it about?

It is a study to compare the effectiveness of a cervical pessary and vaginal progesterone to prevent spontaneous preterm births in pregnant women with cervical lengths 25 mm or less as measured by transvaginal ultrasonography

Why is it important?

Preterm birth is the second most frequent direct cause of death in children younger than 5 years old1–3 and it is the leading cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality in developed countries

Perspectives

The patients with short cervix, are a very heterogeneous group. If we can select individual characteristics of the short cervix and create homogeneous groups, the research results will be more reliable
