What is it about?
This article describes a technique for ultrasound imaging to guide the insertion of an intravenous catheter into a vein. The images show the ultrasound appearance of the tip and bevel of a needle.

Why is it important?
Intravenous access can be difficult at times, and may require multiple attempts that can cause pain and suffering to the patient. Ultrasound imaging can be used to mncrease the success rate of intravenous line placement, but the technique is difficult to master.
