This review article brings together a diverse literature concerning the presence of other bacteria in addition to rhizobia in legume root nodules.

Why is it important?
The "other" bacteria in root nodules have been mostly ignored or thought of as "contaminants" and discarded even though they have the ability to enhance plant development and nitrogen fixation by rhizobia, which are the major inhabitants of root nodules.
