What is it about?

We have completely automated the interpretation of the dicentric chromosome assay, which is the gold standard for measuring how much ionizing radiation that a person has been exposed to.

Why is it important?

The current process is laborious because the analysis of this data is performed manually and requires highly specialized expertise. The software we describe overcomes this limitation.

Perspectives

In a large scale event in which many people could be irradiated, this is probably the only approach that could determine whether all of them could be treated or excluded from treatement, depending on the dose received.
