What is it about?
Since bronchiolitis is the leading cause of infant hospitalization with a wide variation in terms of diagnosis and management, especially in smaller community hospitals. Why is it important?
Our findings showed that many children admitted to a community-based emergency department received unnecessary bronchodilators, steroids, and chest x-rays. Based on our findings, we suggest that the development of institutional or health region-specific clinical practice guidelines that consider local culture as well as encourages collaboration with stakeholders may help in optimal diagnosis and treatment of bronchiolitis in community-based ED.
